One of our key objectives is ‘to make our community a friendly and sociable place to live by bringing people together and supporting local groups and events’. Talking with members we found that being in the city centre there are lots of groups and activities that people already attend.
Rather than replicating some of these, we provide an opportunity to meet informally to chat by organising a regular get-together at a local pub. We have been meeting for 4 years, the last 2 of which have been at The Rising Sun in Grove Street where we receive a warm welcome. People dip in and out, come when they can, so whilst numbers vary, there are usually about 30-40 people. There are always some committee members to make introductions so it is a very good way for new people to meet neighbours. This regular format works but not everyone can make a Tuesday, so last year we also threw a summer party at a weekend which was a great success and attracted people who are not resident.
We are happy to inform members of other events on our doorstep, especially those in the green spaces in our area. Let us know in advance and also of any other ideas for activities that can bring us
